Drawing Studio II
The studio is directed at students in the 2nd to 5th year. Its aim is to work out an individual visual language, a creative attitude towards the artistic phenomena and mastery of the main issues of the structure of a painting. These goals are achieved through workshop classes with the option of work from nature (model, installation), which often force students to interpret what they see. Combining work from nature with one’s own concepts is the departure point to working from imagination alone. An important feature of the studio is the introduction of color and a whole array of techniques and other media supplementing the traditional techniques.
It creates the possibilities to use and penetrate other areas of art and helps to express one’s personality more fully. Mastering the artistic craft is a necessary condition to pass on to more difficult tasks, among them finding a unique mode of expression. Thanks to a close collaboration between the student and teacher the process of adapting the means of expression to the student’s abilities and interests is possible, without losing the margin of freedom necessary for affirming and expressing the student’s individuality. Artistic originality, singular style combined with an array of issues to express is the main goal of the Studio. The final note is also affected by activity, progress and creativity – necessary elements of the self-discipline of the future artist. The curriculum is only a general frame, in practice there must be an individual program different for each person, having its grounds in each specific case.
Therefore the works of students, their interests, the sum of their artistic and life experiences are shaping the individual program day by day. New works create new problems that cannot be predicted in a complex discipline like art. Living matter in the form of teaching program is being created with relation to the works of students and is conditioned by the sum of personal experiences of the teacher and their artistic intuition, which often form the only trail in the complicated matter of artistic expression.
