Serigraphy, one of the oldest print techniques, has found its place in the world of graphic art fairly recently. The simple principle of production, large correspondence between the matrix and the print, lack of limitations concerning size, the possibility of making prints on many different surfaces (paper, metal, glass, plastic etc.), the quickness of making large numbers of prints, the easiness of obtaining multicolored prints also in the triadic system, and other features define the distinct nature of this technique compared to other printmaking techniques. This difference, aside from the technical aspect, is reflected also in a more experimental approach to teaching. The Serigraphy Studio in the Chair of Graphic Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, along with the Digital Techniques Studio, constitutes a kind of laboratory, a place where the student in undertaking the effort to find their own form of expression is able to shape technique directly to their individual needs.
