Typography basics course teaches students concepts relating to the construction of letters, their mutual relations, the principles of building words of letters, lines of words, paragraphs of lines. They gain knowledge about the rules of typography. Classes begin with learning how to install fonts on a computer, and end on designing pages of a publication. The second stage is learning to build text hierarchy, proper way to highlight and accentuate selected fragments, and to structure the publication, which is the starting point to design a book or periodical. Classes are complemented by a series of lectures on the history of writing, contemporary typography issues and typeface design.
